The authors look at sums of units in a finitely-generated integral domain \(R\) of characteristic zero. In particular, they show that in \(R\), there does not exist an integer \(n\) such that every element of \(R\) is a sum of at most \(n\) units. At the other end of the spectrum, they show that there exist infinitely many algebraic extensions of \(\mathbb{Q}\) in which every integer is a sum of two units.
