The author considers the problem of global separation of affine algebraic sets. The main result of the paper states that if \(X\) and \(Y\) are algebraic subsets in a normed complex space \(M\) then there is a constant \(c>0\) such that \[ \rho(z, X)+\rho(z, Y)\geq c\bigg(\frac{\rho(z, X\cap Y)}{1+| z|^2 }\bigg)^{\text{deg}(x)\text{deg}(Y)}, \] for all \(z\in M\). In the proof of this result the author improves some techniques developed in a joint paper of the author with \textit{T. Krasiński} and \textit{P. Tworzewski} [Invent. Math. 136, 75--87 (1999; Zbl 0942.32003)]. As an application, the author gives a new approach to the proof of some known results concerning the global Łojasiewicz inequality of complex polynomial maps from \(\mathbb C^n\) to \(\mathbb C^k\).
