The following theorem is proved. Theorem. For any rational \(\alpha>5\) there exists a finitely presented semigroup with Gelfand-Kirillov dimension \(\alpha\). The authors mention that all known constructions of semigroups with noninteger Gelfand-Kirillov dimension were obtained by means of an infinite number of identities. Therefore the result of this paper becomes an object of interest.
