It is easy to show that a finite group coinciding with its derived subgroup is a normal closure of one element and \textit{J. Wiegold} [Question 5.52 in The Kourovka Notebook. Unsolved Problems in Group Theory, 14-th ed., Novosibirsk: Institut Matematiki SO RAN (1999; Zbl 0943.20003)] asked whether this was also true for infinite finitely generated groups. In this paper the author continues the investigation of this problem started in \textit{S. V. Larin} and \textit{A. I. Sozutov} [XX Inter-Regional Scientific and Technical Conference, KGSA, Krasnoyarsk 2002, p. 100] by obtaining results which show what a possible counterexample might look like.
