The Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller is very important in control engineering applications and is widely used in many industries. Thus any improvement in design methodology has the potential to have a significant engineering and economic impact. The main contribution of this book is to give a methodology that can be used to determine the set of all stabilizing PID gain values for plants having order higher than two. The book is divided into the following chapters: 1) Introduction; 2) The Hermitian-Biehler theorem and its generalization; 3) PI stabilization of delay-free linear time-invariant systems; 4) PID stabilizations of delay-free linear time-invariant systems; 5) Preliminary results for analyzing systems with time delay; 6) Stabilization of time-delay systems using a constant gain feedback controller; 7) PI stabilization of first-order systems with time delay; 8) PID stabilization of first-order systems with time delay; 9) Control system design using the PID controller; 10) Analysis of some PID tuning techniques; 11) PID stabilization of arbitrary linear time-invariant systems with time delay; 12) Algorithms for real and complex PID stabilization. The bibliography contains 54 titles. The text is well written, easy to read, and many examples clarify the theoretical discussions.
