The author discusses the Weil-Petersson geometry of Teichmüller spaces and hyperbolic 3-manifolds. He considers a 3-manifold \(T_{\psi}\) which fibers over the circle with monodromy \(\psi: S\to S\) a pseudo-Anosov element. \(\psi\) induces an isometry of the Teichmüller space \({T(S)}\) of \(S\) equipped with its Weil-Petersson metric and the translation distance \(\| \psi\| _{\roman{wp}}\) is positive. The following theorem is proved: There exists a constant \(K\geq 1\) depending only on the topology of \(S\) so that the volume of \(T_{\psi}\) satisfies \[ \| \psi\| _{\roman{wp}}/K\leq \roman{vol}(T_{\psi})\leq K\| \psi\| _{\roman{wp}}. \]
