Given a finite oriented graph, the author considers the set of all its subtrees (connected cycle-free subgraphs), using it as a basis for a free \(\mathbb Z\)-module, which is then made into a Lie ring by an appropriate definition of Lie multiplication. This ring is then shown to be graded and nilpotent. An embedding of such Lie rings in adjoint Lie rings of finite-dimensional associative rings determined by the same graph is also shown.
