    The problem of the dynamics of the electromagnetic field is considered in this paper. By using the operator \[ \mathcal{A} \mathbf{u} = \text{rot}(k(\mathbf{x}) \text{rot}\, \mathbf{u}) \] the main equations are rewritten to operator-differential Cauchy problems in \(0 < t \leq T\): \[ \mathbf{u}_t + \mathcal{A}\mathbf{u} = 0,\quad \mathbf{u}(0) = \mathbf{u}_0 , \] or \[ u_{tt} + \mathcal{A}\mathbf{u} = 0 ,\quad \mathbf{u}(0) = \mathbf{u}_0,\quad \mathbf{u}_t(0) = \mathbf{u}_1. \] The approximate solutions are given by the grid counterpart \(\mathbf{A}\) of the operator \(\mathcal{A}\) with the approximation condition \[ \mathcal{ A}\mathbf{u} - \mathbf{A}\mathbf{u} = O(h^2). \] On the uniform time grid the author uses the two-level difference schemes \[ B( \mathbf{y}^{n+1} + \mathbf{y}^{n})/ \tau + A\mathbf{y}^{n} = \mathbf{0}. \] The stability conditions for this problem is mentioned.
