The author proves that Eilenberg's fixed point theorem (see, e.g., \textit{J. Dugundji} and \textit{A. Granas} [``Fixed point theory. Vol. I'' (Monografie Matematyczne 61, PWN, Warszawa) (1982; Zbl 0483.47038)]) is equivalent to the restriction of the Banach contraction principle to the class of non-Archimedean bounded metric spaces; a related extension is also given. For other similar results, see \textit{W. Grudzinski} [Zesz. Nauk. Politech. Lódz., Mat. 695(26), 81--88 (1994; Zbl 0830.54032)] and \textit{I. A. Rus} [Stud. Univ. Babeş-Bolyai, Math. 33, No.~3, 61--64 (1988; Zbl 0694.54034)].
