The object of this paper is the construction of Gaussian vortex blobs for the Poisson equation on the sphere. An exact solution is given, but it involves the cancellation of logarithmic singularities at the poles. A Legendre expansion converges quickly for broad Gaussians, while matched asymptotic expansions are most useful for compact Gaussians.
