The authors investigate the problem to dissect special quadrilaterals into triangles of equal areas. More precisely, they investigate dissections of kite-shaped quadrilaterals which can be described by vertices of the form \((0,0)\), \((0,1)\), \((1,0)\), and \((a,a)\), \(a>{1\over 2}\), and denoted by \(Q(a)\). The axial symmetry of \(Q(a)\) implies that \(Q(a)\) can be dissected into an arbitrary even number of such triangles. Inspired by this, the authors present analogous results for certain odd numbers, using purely elementary methods. At the end of the article they pose some open questions.
