A hyperkähler (or holomorphic symplectic) manifold is a simply connected compact Kähler manifold \(X\) such that \(H^{0}(X, \Omega_{X}^{2})\) is generated by a closed non-degenerate \(2\)-form. In this article, the author studies fibred hyperkähler manifolds \(f:X\rightarrow{\mathbb P}^{n}\) with a bimeromorphic section. The fibres of \(f\) are Lagrangian submanifolds that are abelian varieties of dimension \(n\). As \(f\) is supposed to have a bimeromorphic section, \(X\) is projective and we obtain an abelian variety \(A_{K}\) over the function field \(K={\mathbb C}({\mathbb P}^{n})\). The main result is that the Picard number of \(A_{K}\) over \(K\) is equal to \(1\). It is interesting to note that nevertheless it is possible that all smooth fibres of \(f\) my have Picard number at least \(2\), as the author shows by an example (the Hilbert scheme of \(n\) points on an elliptic \(K3\) surface). The proof combines results from \textit{D. Matsushita} [Am.\ J.\ Math.\ 127, No.\ 2, 243--259 (2005; Zbl 1069.14011)] and \textit{C. Voisin} [Lond.\ Math.\ Soc.\ Lect.\ Note Ser.\ 179, 294--303 (1992; Zbl 0765.32012] about deformations of Lagrangian fibrations. As an application, the author considers the rank of the Mordell-Weil group of \(f\) (i.e.\ the group of \(K\)-rational points of \(A_{K}\)). He calculates the Mordell-Weil rank in terms of the Picard number of \(X\) and the number of prime divisors lying over each component of the discriminant locus \(D\subset{\mathbb P}^{n}\) of \(f\). Finally, he constructs a fibred hyperkähler manifold \(X\rightarrow{\mathbb P}^{5}\) with a holomorphic section which is deformation equivalent to O'Grady's \(10\)-dimensional hyperkähler manifold. This way he obtains an example of an abelian fibred hyperkähler manifold with Mordell-Weil rank \(20\), the largest known so far.
