A class of iterative methods for the solution of nonlinear equations is studied in detail. All methods in the class show global convergence, i.e.\ do not depend on the starting value, and infinite speed of convergence for some nonlinear equations in the sense that the exact solution is reached within exactly one iteration step. For some nonlinear equations a new family of Newton schemes with a high order of convergence is constructed. Convergence of such methods is established in the reals as well as in the complex plane.
