The main result of the paper is to point out that the triality theorem in the paper by \textit{D. Y. Gao} and \textit{N. Ruan} [Math. Methods Oper. Res. 67, No. 3, 479--491 (2008; Zbl 1145.90054)] is false by giving counterexamples. This is done by treating a more general problem, which encompasses several examples mentioned in the paper by Gao and Ruan quoted above as well as some examples of the paper by Gao and his collaborators.
