The paper studies symplectic involutions on hyperkähler manifolds of \(K3^{[2]}\)-type. \textit{C. Camere} [``Symplectic involutions of holomorphic symplectic fourfolds'', \url{arxiv:1010.2607}] has shown that the fixed loci either contain a complex torus or consist of \(28\) isolated points and a \(K3\) surface. Now Theorem 4.1 of the paper proves that the former does not occur. At the same time, the author shows that the anti-invariant sublattice of \(H^2\) is isomorphic to \(E_8(-2)\), a fact of analogue to \(K3\) surfaces. In particular, it is shown that all symplectic involutions are deformation equivalent. The main ingredient of the proof is deformation theory with automorphisms and uses the corresponding result for \(K3\) surfaces proved by \textit{V. V. Nikulin} [Math. USSR, Izv. 14, 103--167 (1980; Zbl 0427.10014)]. The paper also includes some fundamental considerations on finite automorphisms of \(K3^{[2]}\)-type manifolds.
