The discrete multiwindow Gabor systems the authors study are sets of functions defined on the integers \(\mathbb Z\) by \(\mathcal G(g,L,N,M)=\{E_{\frac mM} T_{nN}g_\ell\}\) where \((E_\tau f)(\cdot)=e^{2\pi \i \tau \cdot}f(\cdot)\), \((T_\tau f)(\cdot)=f(\cdot-\tau)\), \(g_\ell \in \ell^2(\mathbb Z)\) for \(\ell \in \mathbb N_L=\{0,1,\ldots,L-1\}\), \(m\in \mathbb N_M\), and \(n\in \mathbb Z\). In particular they study the case where \(\ell^2(\mathbb Z)\) is replaced by the closed subspace \(\ell^2(\mathbb S)\) consisting of functions that are \(0\) outside the \(N\mathbb Z\)-periodic set \(\mathbb S\) and they give some necessary and/or sufficient conditions for such a system to be a frame. A number of further questions related to Gabor duals, different sampling rates, and nonexponential kernels are studied as well.
