A set \(\mathcal{D}\) of \(n\)-dimensional subspaces, \(n\geq 2\), of a vector space \(V\) over \(\mathbb{F}_q\) is called a \textit{dual hyperoval} (DHO) of rank \(n\) if \(|\mathcal{D}| = (q^n-1)/(q-1)+1\), \(\dim (X_1\cap X_2) = 1\) for any \(X_1\in X_2 \in \mathcal{D}\) and \(\dim (X_1\cap X_2\cap X_3) =0\) for any three different \(X_1, X_2, X_3 \in \mathcal{D}\). The space \(\langle \mathcal{D}\rangle\) is called the ambient space of \(\mathcal{D}\). A DHO is said \textit{bilinear} if it admits a translation group. In this work, the authors discuss dual hyperovals of rank \(4\) over \(\mathbb{F}_2\): they classify all such dual hyperovals if the ambient space has dimension \(7\) or \(8\) and they determine the bilinear dual hyperovals in the case of an ambient space of dimension \(9\) or \(10\).
