Let \(S\) be a finite set, and let \({\mathcal X}\) denote the symbolic space \(S^{{\mathbb Z}_+}\) of functions \(x: \mathbb{Z}_{+} \mapsto S.\) The shift map \(T: {\mathcal X} \mapsto {\mathcal X}\) is defined as \((Tx)(n) = x(n+1)\), and the Kusuoka measure \(\nu\) is a shift-invariant measure on the space \({\mathcal X}\). The transfer operator \(L\) is the dual of the shift operator \(Tf = f\circ T\) on the Hilbert-space of functions \(L^{2}({\mathcal X}, \nu).\) The main results of the paper are quasi-compactness of the transfer operator and exponential decay of correlations. The authors obtain also certain results on the Sierpinski gasket and introduce a Hilbert space on which a transfer operator that acts on matrix-valued operators is easily analysed in terms of a special matrix operator.
