The author considers the values of the parameter \(\lambda\) for which \(0\) is preperiodic under the exponential map \(E_\lambda=\lambda \exp\). Let \(E_\lambda^m\) be the \(m\)-th iterate of \(E_\lambda\) and \(f_m(\lambda)=E_\lambda^m(0)\). Moreover, for \(k,\ell \in\mathbb{N}\) let \(n(r)\) denote the number of \(\lambda\) contained in \( 0 < |z| \leq r\) which satisfy \(f_k(\lambda) = f_{k+\ell} (\lambda)\) and \(f_i(\lambda) \not= f_j(\lambda)\) for \(0 < i < j < k + \ell\). It is easily seen that \(n(r)\sim r/\pi\) as \(n \to \infty\) in the case \(k=\ell=1\). Using Nevanlinna theory, the author shows in the main theorem that for \(k + \ell \geq 3\) the asymptotic formula \[ n(r) \sim \frac{1}{\sqrt{2\pi^3}} \, f_{k+\ell-1} (r) \sqrt{f_{k+\ell-2}(r)} \quad \text{as } r \to \infty \] holds.
