An asymptotically optimal adaptive numerical method based on a wavelet scheme is addressed and used for snapshot computations within the offline phase of the reduced basis method allowing the a posteriori error estimation of each snapshot. These error estimates are computed with the aid of the adaptive dual wavelet expansion. The resulting adaptive residual basis method is analyzed, and the convergence of the resulting adaptive method is shown. Numerical experiments are shown for both stationary and instationary problems.
