Let \(B_1(X)\) denote the set of first Baire class functions on a Tychonoff space \(X\) with the pointwise convergence topology. Recall that the sequential closure of a subset \(A\) of \(X\) is the set of all limits of sequences from \(A\), and a space \(X\) is sequentially separable if it contains a countable sequentially dense subset. The authors prove that \(B_1(X)\) is sequentially separable if and only if there exists a bijection \(\varphi:X\rightarrow Y\) where \(Y\) is a separable metrizable space such that (1) \(\varphi^{-1}(U)\) is a \(Z_\sigma\)-set of \(X\) for any open set \(U\) of \(Y\), and (2) \(\varphi(T)\) is an \(F_\sigma\)-set of \(Y\) for any zeroset \(T\) of \(X\). The authors also give necessary and sufficient conditions for \(B_1(X)\) to be strongly sequentially separable.
