Let \(A\) be an infinite abelian group. Two group topologies \(\tau_1\) and \(\tau_2\) on \(A\) are called equivalent if there exists a homeomorphism \((A,\tau_1)\to(A,\tau_2)\). It is known from \textit{K.-P. Podewski} [Rev. Roum. Math. Pures Appl. 22, 1283--1290 (1977; Zbl 0386.08001)] that there exist \(2^{2^{|A|}}\) non-equivalent Hausdorff group topologies on \(A\). In the paper under review, it is proved that \(A\) admits \(2^{2^{|A|}}\) non-equivalent totally bounded Hausdorff group topologies. Moreover, under CH, \(\mathbb Z_p^\mathbb N\) admits precisely four locally compact Hausdorff group topologies, and among them the product topology is the only compact one. This should be compared with the example given in [\textit{L. Fuchs}, Acta Math. Acad. Sci. Hung. 10, 133--140, VII (1959; Zbl 0087.25603)] of an abelian group \(G\) admitting \(|G|\) many non-equivalent compact group topologies.
