The authors solve a time independent diffusion boundary value problem on a cylindrical coordinate system. On the semi-infinite z axis domain they introduce a mixed boundary condition in the origin. The solution is supposed to vanish at large distances. A Galerkin projection method is formulated using test and trial spaces based on the Laguerre functions. These functions a priory satisfy the condition at infinity. The residual of projection least squares method is estimated. Its convergence to zero is proven. A numerical example concerning an exact exponentially decaying solution is carried out.
