    For an infinite cardinal \(\kappa\) a function \(f:X\to Y\) is \(\kappa\)-continuous provided the restriction of \(f\) to every subspace of cardinality at most \(\kappa\) is continuous. The functional tightness of \(X\), \(t_0(X)\), is \(\min\{\kappa \mid \kappa \text{ is infinite and every } \kappa\text{-continuous real-valued function on } X \text{ is continuous}\}\). If \(X\) is locally compact and Hausdorff then \(t_0(X\times Y)\leq t_0(X)t_0(Y)\). The proof makes use of the authors' analogue of the Whitehead Theorem: for \(X\) locally compact and \(p:Y\to Z\) an \(R\)-quotient map (continuous, surjective and every \(f:Z\to\mathbb R\) is continuous if \(fp\) is) the product \(\text{id}_X\times p:X\times Y\to X\times Z\) is \(R\)-quotient.
