Let \(G\) be a finite group and \(p\) be a prime number. Let \(C_{p}(G)\) denote the number of composition factors of \(G\) isomorphic to the simple abelian group \(\mathbb{Z}_{p}\). The main result of the paper under review is the following. Theorem. Let \(q=p^{f}\) where \(p\) is a prime number and \(f\) a natural number. If \(G\) is a completely reducible subgroup of \(\mathrm{GL}(d,r)\) with \(r\) irreducible components, then \(C_{p}(G)\leq\dfrac{\varepsilon_{q}d-r}{p-1}\) where \[ \varepsilon_{q}=\begin{aligned}\begin{cases} \dfrac{4}{3}, \qquad &\text{ if }p=2\text{ and }f \text{ is even}, \\ \dfrac{p}{p-1},&\text{ if }p\text{ is a Fermat prime}, \\ 1,&\text{ otherwise}. \end{cases}\end{aligned} \]
