The authors refer to the well-known Steinhaus theorem: each set \(A\) with positive Lebesgue measure fulfils the condition \(\mathrm{int}(A-A)\neq \emptyset\) and the question posed by R. Ger: if there exists a compact set \(A\subset \mathbb{R}\) such that \(\mathrm{int}(A-A)\neq \emptyset\) and \(\mathrm{int}(A+A) = \emptyset\). The answer to this question is contained in various articles (e.g. [\textit{M. Crnjac} et al., Acta Math. Hung. 57, No. 3--4, 253--257 (1991; Zbl 0757.28001)]). In the paper under review, the authors presented a solution to the Ger's problem using a set of groups \(\mathbb{Z}_{12}\) and R. Zduńczyk result contained as a part of the monograph [\textit{R. Wituła} (ed.) et al., Selected problems on experimental mathematics. Gliwice: Wydawnictwo Politechniki Śląskiej (2017; Zbl 1375.00097)]. The paper is closed with considerations connected with ideals having closed \((1,1)\)-Steinhaus property and not having \((1,-1)\)-Steinhaus property (if \(G\) is an abelian topological group and \(\mathcal{J}\) is an ideal on a group \(G\) then \(\mathcal{J}\) has the closed \((1,1)\)-Steinhaus property (\((1,-1)\)-Steinhaus property) if for any closed subsets \(X_1, X_2 \in \mathcal{J}\) the set \(X_1 + X_2\) (\(X_1 - X_2\), respectively) is not nowhere dense in \(G\)).
