The aim of the paper under review is to give a complete description of the set of apparent contours of stable maps between connected and orientable closed surfaces, whose critical locus is irreducible and the number of cusps and nodes of such contours is minimal possible (see [\textit{T. Fukuda} and \textit{T. Yamamoto}, J. Singul. 3, 113--125 (2011; Zbl 1292.57022), \textit{T. Yamamoto}, Kyushu J. Math. 64, No. 1, 1--16 (2010; Zbl 1195.57064); Pac. J. Math. 280, No. 2, 489--510 (2016; Zbl 1334.57031)]). The author underlines that his results are, in fact, ``the very first step towards classifying generic \(C^\infty\) maps between closed surfaces up to right-left equivalence''.
