Let \(f : M\rightarrow M\) be a diffeomorphism, where \(M\) is a compact Riemannian manifold without boundary. One says that \(f\) is partially hyperbolic if the tangent bundle splits into three subbundles, i.e., \(TM = E^s \oplus E^c\oplus E^u\), invariant under the tangent map \(Df\) and such that: {\parindent=6mm \begin{itemize}\item[1)] There exists \(0 < \lambda < 1\) such that \[ \|Df|_ {E^s} \|< \lambda \qquad \text{and} \qquad \|Df^{-1} |_{E^u}\|<\lambda. \] \item[2)] For every \(x\in M\) one has \[ \frac{\|Df|_ {E_x^s} \|}{m \{ Df|_ {E_x^c} \} } <1 \qquad \text{and} \qquad \frac{\|Df|_ {E_x^c} \|}{m \{ Df|_ {E_x^u} \} } <1 , \] where \(m\{A\}=\|A^{-1}\|^{-1}\). \end{itemize}} It is well known that \(E^s\) and \(E^u\) integrate to two foliations \(\mathcal{F}^s\) and \(\mathcal{F}^u\). One says that \(f\) is accessible if every two points of \(M\) can be joined by a concatenation of curves that are contained either in a leaf \(\mathcal{F}^s\) or in a leaf of \(\mathcal{F}^u\). Accessibility plays an important role in showing stable ergodicity. The authors consider large classes of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. These classes include (perturbations of) the product of Anosov and conservative surface diffeomorphisms, skew products of surface diffeomorphisms over Anosov, partially hyperbolic symplectomorphisms on manifolds of dimension four with bidimensional center foliation whose center leaves are all compact. The authors show that accessibility and ergodicity hold in these classes for \(C^1\)-open and \(C^r\)-dense subsets.
