In this paper, a notion of \(f\)-subgroup is introduced and it is investigated which is a generalization of two different notions: (i) subgroup of a group \(G\); (ii) open neighborhood filter of the identity in a topological group \(G\). It is proved that the set of all \(f\)-subgroups of a group \(G\) is a complete lattice which contains a set of all principal (normal) \(f\)-subgroups of \(G\) as a (complete) sublattice. The authors characterize permutable \(f\)-subgroups of a group \(G\) and describe an infimum of two permutable \(f\)-subgroups in the lattice of all \(f\)-subgroups of a group \(G\). It is proved that the image of a base of a (normal, principal) \(f\)-subgroup taken under the surjective homomorphism is a base of a (normal, principal) \(f\)-subgroup. Also, some interplays between \(f\)-subgroups and open neighborhood base of the identity in topological groups were given.
