Summary: The main purpose of this paper is to establish a common fixed point theorem for set valued mappings in 2-metric spaces by generalizing a theorem of \textit{M. E. A. El-Monsef} et al. [Chaos Solitons Fractals 41, No. 3, 1435--1441 (2009; Zbl 1198.54073)] and \textit{P. P. Murthy} and \textit{K. Taş} [Hacet. J. Math. Stat. 38, No. 3, 285--291 (2009; Zbl 1190.54033)] by using \((\phi, \psi)\)-weak contraction in view of Greguš type condition for set valued mappings using \(R\)-weakly commuting maps.
