The paper under review provides a characterization of symplectic Grassmannians among Fano manifolds of Picard number one in terms of their varieties of minimal rational tangents (VMRT). It is shown that symplectic Grassmannians can be characterized if at every point the VMRT is the expected one. Namely, if \(X\) is a Fano manifold of Picard number one endowed with a beautiful family of rational curves (i.e, a donimating unsplit family with a smooth evaluation morphism), assume that its tangent map \(\tau\) is a morphism and \(\tau_x\) is projectively equivalent to the embedding of \(\mathcal{C}\) into \(\mathbb{P}(H^0(\mathcal{C}, \mathcal{O}_\mathcal{C}(1)))\) for every \(x\in X\), then \(X\) is isomorphisc to a symplectic Grassmannian. Here \(\mathcal{C}\) is defined to be \(\mathbb{P}(\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^{r-1}}(2)\oplus\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^{r-1}}(1)^{2n-2r})\) for \(1< r< n\).
