The author studies entropy solutions of scalar conservation laws and viscosity solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi equations, which are periodic both in the time and in the space variables. In this paper nontrivial periodic solutions, which can be obtained as limits of finite difference approximations, are precisely characterized.
