For a fixed positive integer \(N\), let \(\mathbb{B}\) be the open unit ball of the \(N\)-dimensional complex Euclidean space \(\mathbb{C}^N\). Let \(\mathcal{H}(\mathbb{B})\) be the space of all holomorphic functions on \(\mathbb{B}\). For \(f\in\mathcal{H}(\mathbb{B})\), the radial derivative of \(f\) is defined by \(\displaystyle \mathcal{R}f(z)=\sum_{j=1}^{N} z_{j} \frac{\partial f}{\partial z_j}(z)\). The Zygmund space \(\mathcal{Z}(\mathbb{B})\) is the space of all functions \(f\in\mathcal{H}(\mathbb{B})\) such that \[ \|f\|_{\mathcal{Z}(\mathbb{B})}= |f(0)| + \sup_{z\in\mathbb{B}}(1-|z|^2)|\mathcal{R}^2 f(z)|<\infty. \] The little Zygmund space \(\mathcal{Z}_0(\mathbb{B})\) is the closed subspace of \(\mathcal{Z}(\mathbb{B})\) which consists of the functions \(f\in \mathcal{H}(\mathbb{B})\) such that \(\displaystyle \lim_{|z|\rightarrow 1^-} (1-|z|^2)|\mathcal{R}^2 f(z)|=0\). In this paper, the author characterizes the Zygmund spaces \(\mathcal{Z}(\mathbb{B})\) and \(\mathcal{Z}_0(\mathbb{B})\) via the behavior of the higher radial derivatives \(\mathcal{R}^m f\), where \(f\in\mathcal{H}(\mathbb{B})\) and \(m\geq 2\) is an integer. Moreover, using an integral representation formula in terms of the Bergman projection, the author shows that the Zygmund spaces \(\mathcal{Z}(\mathbb{B})\) and \(\mathcal{Z}_0(\mathbb{B})\) have a solution for Gleason's problem.
