The author studies the two dimensional cubic Schrödinger/ Gross-Pitaevskii equation \[ i\partial_t \Psi = (-\Delta +V) \Psi + g |\Psi|^2 \Psi \] where \(g=-1\) in the case considered here. Stationary solutions of the form \(\Psi (x,t)=e^{-i\omega t} \psi(x)\) which are smooth and localized are shown to exist with exponential decay at infinity. The equation is turned into a dynamical system by making a particular ansatz. This ansatz allows for Sobolev compactness issues to be addressed. A shooting method is then used to solve the resulting system.
