Let \(A\) denote an abelian variety. Any polarization of \(A\) induces a isomorphism between the rational Néron-Severi group of \(A\) and the subspace of its rational endomorphism algebra which is symmetric with respect to the Rosati involution given by the polarization. This implies that one can express the Riemann-Roch Theorem in terms of the symmetric endomorphisms of \(A\). The first part of the paper recalls the classical theorems concerning this isomorphism. In the last part some applications are given concerning the index of line bundles in some of these cases as well as the above mentioned isomorphism in the case of a product of abelian varieties with product polarization. Some examples are given.
