The result of the paper is that a finite quandle is 2-transitive, if and only if it is of cyclic type, if and only if it is affine over a finite field and a primitive element, i.e., of the form \((F,*)\) with \(x*y=(1-a)x+ay\) where \(F\) is a finite field and \(a\) its primitive element. A quandle is called 2-transitive if the translations \(x\mapsto u*x\) generate a 2-transitive group, and it is called of cyclic type if the translations consist of an \((n-1)\)-cycle and a singleton, where \(n\) is the order of the quandle.
