Topological phases of matter without any symmetry are gapped quantum phases of matter at zero temperature. Using Kitaev's quantum double models and Bombin and Martin-Delgado's two-parameter generalization, the authors find exactly solvable Hamiltonian realizations of gapped boundaries and their excitations in Dijkgraaf-Witten theories. A macroscopic theory for these boundaries and excitations is developed.
