Bypassing Maxwell's achievement of introducing the displacement current density we end up with what is frequently referred to as eddy current equations. In conducting media they are considered a good approximation of Maxwell's equations. For the eddy current equations in the time-harmonic regime the transmission problem of considering a thin (smoothly bounded) conducting toroidal neighborhood \(\Omega_{\epsilon}\) of a smooth simple closed curve \(\gamma\) embedded into a non-conducting environment \(\Omega_{\epsilon}^{\prime}=\mathbb{R}^{3}\setminus\overline{\Omega_{\epsilon}}\) is under investigation in this paper. The thinness of \(\Omega_{\epsilon}\) is parametrized by the positive parameter \(\epsilon\). Considering a variational formulation in terms of the magnetic field alone, the limit of \(\epsilon\to0+\) is studied. With a given applied constant voltage \(f_{\epsilon}\) and suitably averaged quantities for resistance \(R_{\epsilon}\) and inductance \(L_{\epsilon}\) of the wire loop \(\Omega_{\epsilon}\) an asymptotic formula akin of a circuit equation for an R-L-loop is derived assuming a suitable scaling of data and of the constant conductivity in \(\Omega_{\epsilon}\).
