Counting local systems via the trace formula (Q2408332)

In the paper under the review, author provides an alternative proof of the results obtained in Section \(4\) of \textit{P. Deligne} and \textit{Y. Flicker} [Ann. Math. (2) 178, No. 3, 921--982 (2013; Zbl 1284.14026)], where the number of fixed points of an iterate of the pull-back of the Frobenius endomorphism of certain projective curve over a finite field is computed. It is not yet clear whether the approach presented in [loc. cit.] can be extended to some other cases, such as the non-compact quotient case. In the present work author makes the computation using the usual trace formula in the compact quotient case.
