    Let \(R\) be a Noetherian ring and \(I \subset R\) an ideal. The \(I\)-transform of \(R\) is defined to be \[ D_I(R) = \injlim_n \mathrm {Hom}(I^n, R), \] which is an over ring of \(R/H_I^0(R)\). This notion was introduced by \textit{M. Nagata} [Mem. Coll. Sci., Univ. Kyoto, Ser. A 30, 57--70 (1956; Zbl 0089.02501)] to study Hilbert's 14th problem. In the present paper, the author computes the dimension and the spectrum of the \(I\)-transform of \(R\). He shows that \(D_I(R)\) is a finitely generated, flat \(R\)-algebra such that \(\dim D_I(R) = \dim R - 1\) and \(\mathrm{Spec} D_I(R) =\mathrm{Spec} R \setminus V(I)\) if \(R\) is non-Artinian local and \(H_I^k(R) = 0\) for all \(k \neq 1\).
