This paper deals with using interval unions to solve linear systems of equations with uncertainties. The authors define interval union matrices, vectors and systems of linear equations. Then they present two Gauss-Seidel procedures to solve the systems of linear equations. They also extend the idea of preconditioning to interval unions and study two preconditioning heuristics. For solving large systems, the authors suggest a mixed strategy. Numerical tests show that interval union methods produce better enclosures than their interval counterparts.
