The authors consider a two-dimensional quasilinear parabolic equation along with initial and Dirichlet boundary data in a parallelepiped. The nonlinear diffusion coefficients of the equation are assumed to be continuously differentiable and positively bounded from below and from above if the solution is known to be bounded. For this, they invoke an approach of Ladyzhenskaya from 1958 allowing to derive upper and lower bounds for the analytical solutions of quasilinear equations and carry it over to a standard implicit difference scheme (linearized by taking the solutions in the coefficients on the old time level). This investigation is based on the maximum principle for difference schemes in the formulation of \textit{A. A. Samarskij} [Theorie der Differenzenverfahren. Leipzig: Akademische Verlagsgesellschaft Geest\&Portig K.-G. (1984; Zbl 0543.65067)]. Using \(L_2\)-techniques they also prove that the scheme is of second order in space and of first order in time.
