Construction of a \(p\)-adaptive continuous residual distribution scheme (Q2412741)

The authors propose a \(p\)-adaptive continuous residual distribution (RD) scheme. They show that, under certain conditions, by expressing the total residual on a given element \(K\) into residuals on the sub-elements of \(K\) and using a suitable combination of quadrature formulas, it is possible to locally change the degree of the polynomial approximation of the solution. The authors carry out theoretical analysis and exhibit the construction of their \(p\)-adaptive method as a continuous RD scheme. Different test cases for nonlinear equations at different flow velocities are used to numerically demonstrate the validity of their theoretical results.
