    Let \(u\) be the minimizer of vectorial total variation \[ TV(u)= \sup \left\lbrace \int_{\Omega} u \operatorname{Div} \varphi, \quad \varphi \in C^{1}_0 ( \Omega, R^{m\times n}), \quad |\varphi| \leq 1 \right\rbrace \] i.e. \(TV(u)=|Du|(\Omega)\) if \(u \in BV( \Omega, R^{m\times n})\) and \(TV(u)=+\infty\) otherwise. By assuming a \(L^2\) data-fidelity term on an interval I, the authors prove that the total variation of \(u\) over any subinterval of \(I\) is bounded by that of the datum over the same subinterval. Moreover, an analogous statement for the vectorial total variation flow on \(I\) is given.
