The distance function from the boundary of a domain appears in different parts of mathematical analysis, especially in the study of partial differential equations. \textit{G. Crasta} and \textit{A. Malusa} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 359, No. 12, 5725--5759 (2007; Zbl 1132.35005)] studied the distance function and used it to analyze PDEs of Monge-Kantorovich type arising in optimal transport theory. The author studies the regularity of the distance function to the boundary of a domain in \(\mathbb{R}^2\) with respect to some asymmetric norms. We allow the boundary of the domain to have corners. An explicit formula for the second derivative of these distance functions is derived. Furthermore, a generalized notion of the ridge of a domain-which is the set of singularities of a distance function to the boundary of the domain-is studied, too. The author characterizes the ridge using a generalized notion of curvature.
