Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be Banach spaces. The pair \((X,Y)\) is said to have the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property for operators if, given \(\delta>0\), there exists \(\eta(\delta)>0\) such that, whenever \(T\in \mathcal{L}(X,Y)\) with \(\|T\|=1\) and \(x\in S_X\) satisfy \[ \|Tx\|>1-\eta(\delta), \] there are \(F\in \mathcal{L}(X,Y)\) and \(z\in S_X\) such that \[ \|F\|=\|Fz\|=1,\quad \|x-z\|<\delta,\quad \text{ and }\quad \|T-F\|<\delta. \] Recall that a Banach space \(Y\) is said to have the property \(\beta\) if there are two sets \(\{y_\alpha: \alpha \in \Lambda \}\subset S_Y\), \(\{y^*_\alpha: \alpha \in \Lambda \}\subset S_{Y^*}\) and \(0\leq \rho<1\) such that the following conditions hold: (1) \(y^*_\alpha(y_\alpha)=1\), (2) \(|y^*_\alpha(y_\gamma)|\leq \rho\) if \(\alpha\neq \gamma\), and (3) \(\|y\|=\sup\{|y^*_\alpha(y)|: \alpha \in \Lambda \}\) for all \(y\in Y\). Denote for short by \(\beta(Y)\leq \rho\) that a Banach space \(Y\) has property \(\beta\) with parameter \(\rho\in (0,1)\). In [\textit{M. D. Acosta} et al., J. Funct. Anal. 254, No. 11, 2780--2799 (2008; Zbl 1152.46006)], it was proved that, if \(Y\) has property \(\beta\), then, for any Banach space \(X\), the pair \((X,Y)\) has the BPB property for operators. In the paper under review, the authors introduce an analogue of the BPB moduli for the vector-valued case. Namely, the BPB modulus (resp., spherical BPB modulus) of a pair \((X,Y)\) is the function \(\Phi(X,Y,\cdot): (0,1)\to \mathbb{R}^+\) (resp., \(\Phi^S(X,Y,\cdot): (0,1)\to \mathbb{R}^+\)) whose value at \(\varepsilon\in (0,1)\) is defined as the infimum of those \(\delta>0\) such that, for every \((x,T)\in B_X\times B_{\mathcal{L}(X,Y)}\) (resp., \((x,T)\in S_X\times S_{\mathcal{L}(X,Y)}\)) with \(\|Tx\|>1-\varepsilon\), there is \((z,F)\in S_X\times S_{\mathcal{L}(X,Y)}\) with \(\|Fz\|=1\), \(\|x-z\|<\delta\) and \(\|T-F\|<\delta\). The main results of this paper study the upper and lower estimates for \(\Phi(X,Y,\cdot)\) and \(\Phi^S(X,Y,\cdot)\). In particular, the following general upper bound is proven: if \(\beta(Y)\leq \rho\), then, for every \(\varepsilon\in (0,1)\), \[ \Phi^S(X,Y,\varepsilon)\leq \Phi(X,Y,\varepsilon)\leq \min\left\{\sqrt{2\varepsilon}\sqrt{\frac{1+\rho}{1-\rho}},2 \right\}. \]
