The paper starts from a conjecture of \textit{R. Clouâtre} and \textit{K. R. Davidson} formulated in [Adv. Math. 295, 90--149 (2016; Zbl 1422.47073)], which says that every \(\mathcal{A}_d\)-Henkin measure is also a classical Henkin measure, where \(\mathcal{A}_d\) is the norm closure of the polynomials in the multiplier algebra of the Drury-Arveson space \(H^2_d\). If this conjecture were true, the classical theory could be applied to \(\mathcal{A}_d\)-Henkin measures, and some nice consequences and characterizations could be obtained. In the paper under review, a counterexample to this conjecture is given for \(d\ge 2\). In the proof of the result a central role plays the following notion: a compact subset \(K\) of the unit sphere \(\mathbb{S}_d\) in \(\mathbb{C}^d\) is called totally null if it is null for every representing measure of the origin. A totally null set cannot support a nonzero classical Henkin measure. The counterexample is based on the main theorem (Theorem 1.3) which says that for \(d\ge 2\) there exists a Borel probability measure \(\mu\) on the unit sphere \(\mathbb{S}_d\) that is \(\mathcal{A}_d\)-Henkin and whose support is totally null.
