For a Tychonoff space $X$, let $USC_p(X)$ (resp. $B_1(X)$) denote the set of all real-valued upper semicontinuous functions (resp. the set of all Baire functions of class $1$) defined on $X$ endowed with the pointwise convergence topology. In this paper, the authors describe the class of Tychonoff spaces $X$ for which $USC_p(X)$ is sequentially separable. The following is a sample main result of the paper (Theorem 3.2): Let $X$ be a Tychonoff space. Then the following statements are equivalent: (i) $USC_p(X)$ is sequentially separable; (ii) there exists a one-to-one continuous mapping $f\colon X\to Y$ from the space $X$ onto a separable metric space $Y$, such that $f(D)$ is a countable union of zero-sets of $Y$ for any zero-set $D$ of $X$; (iii) there exists a countable subset $S$ of $C(X)$ such that every map in $B_1(X)$ is the pointwise limit of a sequence in $S$. Some interesting open questions are also proposed in the paper.
