Both the symmetric group \(S_n\) and the general linear group \(\mathrm{GL}(V)\) act on the tensor power \(V^{\otimes n}\). If the characteristic is zero and \(V\) is finite dimensional, then Schur-Weyl duality says that the images of these two actions centralize each other in \(\mathrm{End}(V^{\otimes n})\). This fact has numerous applications including in representation theory, combinatorics, symmetric function theory and invariant theory. There are also other interesting double centralizer theorems and this paper discusses one of them, between \(S_k\subset \mathrm{GL}(V)\), where \(k=\dim(V)\), and the partition algebra \(P_k(n)\supset S_n\). Among the results are the dimensions and multiplicities of the irreducible submodules, which involves tableaux; the representations and characters; and the invariant theory. The results are (mostly) not new, but the paper is a good introduction to the subject and should be readable to any one familiar with the Schur-Weyl theory. For the entire collection see [Zbl 1410.05001].
