Let $S=K[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ be a polynomial over a field $K$ and let $I$ be a homogeneous ideal in $S$. The Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $I$, denoted by $\mathrm{reg}(I)$. Let $\Delta$ be a matroid complex, and let $I$ be its Stanley-Reisner ideal. In this paper under review, the authors explicitly compute $\mathrm{reg}(I^{(t)})$ for every positive integer $t$ (where $I^{(t)}$ is the $t$-th symbolic power of $I$). In particular, it is a linear function in $t$ for all $t\geq 1$. For a matroid $\Delta$, they denote by $r(\Delta)$, $c(\Delta)$ and $\mathrm{core}(\Delta)$ the rank, the circumference and the core of $\Delta$, respectively. Then they show that if $\Delta$ is a matroid complex, and $I$ is its Stanley-Reisner ideal, then $\mathrm{reg}(I^{(t)})=c(\Delta)(t-1)+r(\mathrm{core}(\Delta))+1$ for all $t\geq 1$. As an application, they characterize any matroid whose $t$-th symbolic power of the Stanley-Reisner ideal has a linear resolution.
